An ancient Roundhouse and the Cornish landscape

March 7th, 2010

This week I had a commission to photograph an ancient Roundhouse in West Cornwall, set in the amazing landscape of Penwith.  The Roundhouse is going to be let out as a rural holiday retreat.  It really is an amazing place and although the weather wasn’t too good to start off with the sun eventually came out and the quality of light this region is famed for really became apparent.

If you fancy staying here keep an eye on the Sawdays website where it will be available to let.

Food shoot

February 27th, 2010

Had a commission a few weeks ago for onshore restaurant in St Ives to produce some images for some promotional flyers & also for their website.  Unfortunately the sun wasn’t shining too much so I couldn’t make too much of their fantastic location right in the harbour, original intentions were for a glorious blue skied backdrop for the shots of  the food but perhaps that’s asking too much for January in Cornwall! Below are some images from the shoot.

St Michael’s Mount & a chair

February 23rd, 2010

Just outside of Newlyn I came across this area of land with great views over Mounts Bay. With a stormy sky overhead I knew I didn’t have long until the inevitable rain. An abandoned chair became the focus of the photos….

A walk in the sun…. at last!

February 22nd, 2010

A brief spell of sunshine last week coincided with some free time to get out and have a walk. Didn’t venture too far, only across St Ives Bay to Hayle Towans but it’s a very surreal place at this time of year. All the tourists are gone and all that remains are the empty chalets, I get a similar feel here to one of my favourite locations – Dungeness in Kent.

Some of the photos from the walk below.
